Bi-WEEKLY WORKSHOP:

THE WRITERS' REFUGE (WORKSHOP)

First & Third Sundays (2:30-5:00 p.m. ET)

This AWA-styled, ZOOM workshop is designed to create a safe space, a place of refuge, for writers of theatrical plays, screen plays, fiction and non-fiction prose who are interested in making a start to their work or generating new pages in their existing work. Two prompts will be provided during each workshop for those who prefer a jump-starting tool. As always, we're flexible, use the prompt or not, or bring one of your own--it's up to you.

The first hour of the workshop will be spent generating new writing. After a short break, the second hour+ will be spent:

  • Reading aloud the work you've generated during the session (voluntary).  Providing AWA-styled feedback (i.e., looking for the strengths in the material).

  • Each workshop will begin with a five-minute somatic exercise and end with a five-minute closing meditation or exercise.

This workshop is limited to ten participants.

Your investment is $25.00/session, payable using PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. The fee is non-refundable.

Workshops will take place on ZOOM.

To register, email jill@thewritersrefuge.com

"Within the past year I’ve attended multiple workshops with Jill. The prompts she
chooses are always inspiring and never similar, giving the writer many chances to
challenge themselves and write in different ways. One of my favorite things about the
workshops is the sharing and “non-direct” responses to the writer. Addressing the
person who just read as “the author” or “narrator” rather than using their name or the
pronoun “you” allows for both the writer and reader to separate themselves from the
work, eliminating judgment. It also allows the writer to respond to the prompts in a more
candid and honest manner.

I would tell someone who is considering taking one of these workshops to go for it!
Judgment is non-existent and the feedback received is incredibly helpful. Whether you
are writing for yourself, or hoping to one day publish for a larger audience, the
experience in these groups will absolutely prepare you for whatever your goals are."
